Green City , Clean Waters: The First Five Years

The Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) submitted a long term control plan in September 2009, which selected a land-based approach to mitigating combined sewer overflows (CSOs).  This green infrastructure plan has been carefully scrutinized by state and federal regulators as it is the first of its kind in the nation.  PWD is currently developing an Implementation and Adaptive Management Plan to lay the groundwork in the first five years of implementation.  Moving beyond the watershed assessment phase and demonstration phase, PWD is launching its green infrastructure programs with the development of a green streets manual to standardize the design and use of green infrastructure when replacing streets and public works projects.  PWD will build partnerships with a strong focus on streamlining policies and coordinating programmatic alignment with city-wide initiatives such as Greenworks, Green2015 and Philadelphia 2035.

Marc Cammarata, acting Director of PWD’s Office of Watersheds, will share these and other exciting developments in the Green City, Clean Water program. The Office of Watersheds is leading the implementation efforts for the “Green City, Clean Waters" program  which integrates land-based urban sustainability goals with the goals for clean, safe, attractive and accessible rivers and streams.  Marc has over 13 years experience in water resources and environmental planning.  He is a Professional Environmental Engineer and a graduate in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Villanova and Drexel Universities.

A note to all Licensed Professional Engineer's:  Unlike our other seminars, due to the nature of this anniversary celebration, this seminar does not qualify for Professional Development Hours (PDH). Thank you for your understanding and we certainly hope to see you there!
