DIGITAL TWIN APPLICATIONS IN STORMWATER

Micah Strauss, Manager of Product Delivery, OptiRTC

ABSTRACT:

Actively controlled stormwater systems leverage Internet-of-things (IoT) communications technology to integrate site data (e.g., water level and discharge) from field-deployed environmental sensors with real-time weather forecast information to directly monitor and control stormwater storage and flows. Control decisions are supported by a digital twin model that looks at potential outcomes of given scenarios to make predictive decisions. In addition to providing direct control signals, the technology can be used in a decision support or O&M context. In this presentation, we will look into case studies demonstrating the value of this technology and discuss the readiness of communities to adopt digital solutions for infrastructure problems.

SPEAKER BIOS:

Micah Strauss is the Manager of Product Delivery at OptiRTC where he engages with clients across the public and private sector around smart stormwater management. Micah holds a bachelor’s degree from Prescott College in Conservation Biology and Policy where he focused on freshwater ecosystems. He earned a second bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Massachusetts before starting his current graduate work at Villanova University which focuses on the intersection of asset management, operations and maintenance programs, and distributed sensor networks.

Engineers:
