Green Infrastructure and Evapotranspiration

Robert Traver, Ph.D. and Bridget Wadzuk, Ph.D.

Villanova University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Dr’s. Wadzuk and Traver will discuss recent findings from a study in progress as to the role of evapotranspiration and the soil moisture relationship for Green Roofs, Rain Gardens and Stormwater Wetlands.  The talk will focus on how this will affect the future of green infrastructure design.

ROBERT TRAVER is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University,  and Director of both  Center for the Advancement of  Sustainability in Engineering, and the Villanva Urban Stormwater Partnership.  He has conducted research on topics that include modeling of stream hydraulics, urban hydrology, water quality, and sustainable stormwater management.  He initiated the Stormwater Best Management Practice Demonstration and Research Park on the Villanova Campus.  Dr Traver served on ASCE’s External Review Panel (ERP) of the Corps investigation of Hurricane Katrina, and was a member of the National Academies Committee entitled Reducing Stormwater Discharge Contributions to Water Pollution.   Dr Traver received his BSCE degree from the Virginia Military Institute, his MCE from Villanova, and his Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University.

Bridget Wadzuk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University and works with the Villanova Urban Stormwater Partnership. She has conducted research on topics that include implementation, analysis and modeling of stormwater control measures hydraulics and water quality. She has also investigated the role of evapotranspiration in different stormwater control measures hydrology. Dr. Wadzuk received her BS in Civil Engineering from Villanova University, and her MS in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering and PhD in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin.
