5 Keys to Spectacular Landscapes in Green Stormwater Infrastructure

Presented by: Rachel Streit
Managing Designer, CHPlanning Ltd. at the Philadelphia Water Department

ABSTRACT:

Plants are a cornerstone of green stormwater infrastructure (GSI), vital to community buy-in as well as functional processes like infiltration and evapotranspiration. However, it can be very challenging for plants to thrive in GSI, especially in an urban environment. It adds even greater complexity when these landscapes are expected to “fit in” with existing community aesthetics.

In Philadelphia, the groundbreaking Green City, Clean Waters Program has worked through thoughtful approaches to landscaping as it has added over 1,000 green tools across the City. Integral to this program, the Landscape Design Team collaborates closely with planners, engineers, and scientists to plan, design, and maintain thriving, attractive landscapes. This presentation will share 5 practical keys to achieving successful landscapes from the Landscape Design Team.
